(AhlulBayt News Agency) - in Shia religion, Muharram mourning is associated with customs and rituals in the past of which a part has remained. In the meantime, what has been able to transfer a part of the Iranian traditions is the notes of researchers and explorers.
One of these works is the book “The Itinerary of Khorasan to Bakhtiyari” which was authored by Henry Rene d’Allemagne (born July 30 1863 in Marnes-la-Coquette, died December 25, 1950 at Marnes-la-Coquette) from Muharram along with other rituals and customs of Iran.
Henry Rene d’Allemagne is one of the explorers who travelled to Iran several times and in one of his trips was recommended by Sardar Asad Bakhtiyari to take a trip to Bakhtiyari region too. In his book, he writes about Iran and its customs, traditions, politics, economy, society and culture.
The translation of the book ‘The itinerary of Khorasan to Bakhtiyari’ by Henry Rene d’Allemagne into Persian, is a pictorial book which consists of Iran’s lifestyle, customs and traditions, administration, social status, economy, agriculture and industry from the old times to the end of Qajar era.
Rene d’Allemagne points to the presence of the rich and the poor in mourning ceremonies and writes: ‘In the month of Muharram, mourning ceremonies are held in most houses, particularly on the ninth and tenth days which are called Tasou’aa and Ashura, to commemorate Imam Hussein’s martyrdom. Everybody can freely take part in these ceremonies, whether rich or poor, to listen to the sermons and drink tea, coffee and sherbet.”
