Pakistani Sunni leader slams anti-Iran remarks by Saudi Wahhabi Mufti

Sunni leader Pir Syed Masoom Shah Naqvi who heads Jamiat Ulema Pakistan-Niazi group has condemned the Saudi Wahhabis fatwa against Iranian nation saying that fatwa or religious edict issued by Saudi clerics was provocative and shameful.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Sunni leader Pir Syed Masoom Shah Naqvi who heads Jamiat Ulema Pakistan-Niazi group has condemned the Saudi Wahhabis fatwa against Iranian nation saying that fatwa or religious edict issued by Saudi clerics was provocative and shameful.

“Iranians are true lovers and followers of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the last apostle and Prophet of God Almighty who played a great role against Zionism and imperialism,” he said adding that Iranians always worked to strengthen the unity of Muslim Ummah, Pak Shiite News reported.

Pir Masoom Shah said that Saudi kingdom must not use derogatory language against Iran because of Kingdom’s differences with Iran on the issues of Bahrain, Yemen and Syria. He rejected dividing Muslim Ummah on the basis of sect and ethnicity.

He appreciated Iranian nation’s resistance to the hegemonic designs of United States, United Kingdom and also thanked Iranian support to Palestinians and Lebanese against the attacks of Zionist regime of Israel.

“Saudi Kingdom fails to shoulder its responsibility vis-à-vis Hajj arrangements due to which pilgrims lost their lives,” he said citing the fall of a crane and stampede during Hajj rituals. He said that many injured pilgrims died due to negligence of Saudi officials.

It is relevant to add here that Sunni and Shia Muslims disagree with the Wahhabi and Salafi movement. According to this last week more than 100 Muslim clerics from various countries, including Russia, Syria, Turkey, India, Britain, Lebanon, Egypt, South Africa and Jordan, attended the Grozny conference in Russia on August 25-17 to disassociate themselves and Sunnism from the Takfiri terrorist groups that have been wreaking havoc in the Middle East and other places.

The scholar attendees, most of them well-known in the Muslim world, said the groups like Daesh, which fight under the banner of Wahhabism, have no links to Sunnism altogether. The Saudi government, along with its allies, has been among the main sponsors of Takfiri militants.

During the conference in Grozny, Egyptian Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, said that Salafists were not Sunnists, while he was defining what is meant by Sunnism, ABNA24 reported.

Earlier Ahmad Karimah professor of Islamic Sharia at Al-Azhar University said that "the meeting in Chechnya was held to clarify the meaning of Sunni Islam and to remove the distorted image the Wahabis have created of Sunni Islam"

He pointed out at the scientific diversity at Al-Azhar and remarked that this institution does not look forward to excommunicate any group of believers and considers Shiites and Zaydis Muslims and respects them and added "no doubt the venomous snakes have been annoyed because Al-Azhar did not mention their names as Muslims. Wahabisim is a perverse sect. they are apostates and excommunicate everyone including "Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari", "Abu Mansur al-Maturidi", Al-Azhar, Shiites, and Zaydis. If the world is looking forward to uproot terrorism, it has to stand against Wahabism because they are the root of all sedition and conflict. No doubt they would slam this meeting even though we did not excommunicate anyone and actually are hopeful to meet our Shiite and Ibadi brothers in future meetings"
