Lucknow police seeking man accused of insulting senior Shia cleric 'Kalbe Jawad' on Facebook

An FIR was registered against unidentified persons for posting derogatory messages on Facebook against prominent Indian Shia Muslim cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad at Chowk police station on Wednesday.

LUCKNOW, India (AhlulBayt News Agency) - An FIR was registered against unidentified persons for posting derogatory messages on Facebook against prominent Indian Shia Muslim cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad at Chowk police station on Wednesday.

Facebook officials were also named in the FIR for not doing enough to check activities on the Facebook that often cause communal tension and riots in different parts of the country.

On behalf of the cleric, who is also general secretary of Majlis-e-Ulama-e-Hind, Imran Naqvi stated the messages were offensive and capable of vitiating peaceful atmosphere of the city during the festival of Bakrid scheduled next week. Naqvi added the miscreants used fake IDs to post derogatory remarks against the cleric which led to angry protest among his supporters.

Chowk police inspector IP Singh confirmed a case had been registered and Cyber Cell of Lucknow police had been assigned the probe. He also stated that fake IDs were created using names Shifa Abbas and Shia Abbas.

A case has been registered on charges of deliberate provocation, disrupting national integration, deliberate outrage against a particular religion, utterance of specific words hurting religious sentiments and under various sections of the IT Act 2010. We have written to officials of the Facebook to provide details of the IP address and login, he said.
