Head of Bahrain transparency association banned from going abroad

Bahraini authorities banned the head of Bahrain Transparency Association, Sayyed Sharaf al-Moussawi, from traveling on Sunday, September 4, 2016, via Bahrain's International Airport.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Bahraini authorities banned the head of Bahrain Transparency Association, Sayyed Sharaf al-Moussawi, from traveling on Sunday, September 4, 2016, via Bahrain's International Airport.

This is not the first time that al-Moussawi was banned from traveling, as he was also prevented from leaving the country on July 8, 2016, though the checkpoint on the King Fahd Causeway that links Bahrain to Saudi Arabia. He was then released an hour after he remained in custody with lawyer Mohammad al-Tajer, who is also subject to a travel ban.

Bahraini authorities began imposing travel bans on many activists on June 12, 2016. Many opposition figures were banned from leaving the country to attend the 32nd session of the Human Rights Council, the main human rights body at the United Nations.

Among these activists were human rights lawyer Mohammed al-Tajer, rights activist Abdul Nabi Al-Akri, former chair of the dissolved "Bahraini Teachers Association" Jalila al-Salman, nurse and rights defender Roula al-Saffar, and head of the Bahrain branch of "Transparency International", Mohammad Sharaf.
