Japan will be holding its first ever modest fashion show as part of the two-day Halal Expo Japan 2016 on November 22 and 23, its organizer Halal Media Japan said.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Japan will be holding its first ever modest fashion show as part of the two-day Halal Expo Japan 2016 on November 22 and 23, its organizer Halal Media Japan said.

The fashion show will be staged in collaboration with Malaysia-based Moslema In Style, which is the organizer of the annual Kuala Lumpur Modest Fashion Week.

The show in Tokyo will be made up of four different segments and two hijab-styling sessions. It will feature ten designers and brands.

Islamic economy boost

Japan has been stepping up efforts to boost its Islamic Economy.

In the travel and tourism sector, 150,000 Muslims visited the country in 2004, accounting for 2.4 percent of total visitors. By 2013, that figure had doubled to 300,000, which accounted for 2.9 percent of total visitors, according to estimates from CrescentRating.

The country has since focused on boosting its overall tourism figures, and aims to capitalize on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to attract 1 million Muslim visitors a year.

As the number of Muslim tourists has risen, correspondingly so have halal facilities and services, evident in CrescentRating's Muslim Friendly Travel Index Score for Japan rising from 3.9 (out of 10) in 2013, to 4.5 in 2014.

Most recently, in July a halal and Muslim-friendly hotel called Syariah Hotel Fujisan opened at Lake Kawaguchi, a beauty spot at the foot of Mount Fuji, reported local press. It is a first for the popular tourist area.

In November, Aichi Prefecture released a Muslim-friendly guidebook in cooperation with the Nagoya mosque, according to Halal Media Japan.

The Japanese government aims to invest heavily in the halal sector to propel the country among the top five halal exporters globally by 2020.
