WICHITA, Kansas (AhlulBayt News Agency) - Kansas People from all walks of life came together Sunday to learn about Islam. Part of an effort by the Global Learning Center of Wichita to provide opportunities to learn about different people and cultures of the world.

"To dissipate the fear propagated by bards of fear and hate in this country," Kent Rowe said. "Even in the Christian society."

Rowe has attended events like this in the past, but says there is always more to learn and appreciate about cultures other than his own. He learned that there are many similarities between Christianity and Islam.

"There is a lot of parallels and the mention of Jesus, and Mary, and Abraham are in the Quran as well as in the Old Testament," Rowe said.

Hussam Madi, spokesperson for the Islamic Society of Wichita, led the meeting. He says he loves having the opportunity to explain his religion to those who may have the wrong idea about Muslims, because of the actions of radicalists.

"It makes me feel great to know that there are people that would like to know and understand," Madi said. "And then from there they will take it to others and say hey we heard this today, so it will make others also understand or interested in attending the next one."

Madi says having the opportunity to share also helps him feel more comfortable practicing his religion around others.

"It also makes me feel ever better that my next door neighbor would be more understanding if they see me practice my religion in some sort of way," he said.
