LUCKNOW, India - AhlulBayt News Agency - A demand for banning the speeches and television channel Peace TV of controversial preacher Zakir Naik as also an investigative probe into his funding was made by Shia cleric Maulana Yasoob Abbas here on Wednesday.
The cleric was addressing an audience at a protest against the Saudi Arabian regime on the 89th anniversary of the demolition of jannatul Baqi (Baqee cemetery) by Wahhabis, in Saudi Arabia.
"The Saudi government is nurturing world terrorism, be it in the guise of Zakir Naik or ISIS or others. All these people and organisations are Saudi agents against whom the Indian government should make a swift intervention before it is too late, as is in the case of the recent Bangladesh attacks," said the Maulana who is also the spokesperson of the All India Shia Personal Law Board.
Protesting against the Saudi government, the Maulana also sent out a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office, requesting that the Saudi regime be pressured into either reconstructing the tomb at Jannat-ul-Baqi or allowing the Shia community to do so on its own. "Tall buildings have been constructed around the area but graves of the Prophet's kin are left out in the open under Wahabi mentality," he said.
