AhlulBayt News Agency - The Iranian parliamentarians in a statement on Tuesday deplored the al-Khalifa regime for stripping Shiite cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim of citizenship, calling for the international community's proper response.
"During the past few days, we have witnessed the clear violation of two legal, political and civil UN 1966 conventions by the al-Khalifa regime's revoking citizenship of Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, while the UN convention says no country can strip its citizens of citizenship even if they have committed crimes," the statement said.
"We expect the international bodies to show a proper reaction against this unwise measure of the al-Khalifa which is the violation of the international laws," it added.
Bahrain's Interior Ministry announced in a statement yesterday the country's top Shiite cleric was stripped of his citizenship.
