Al-Shabaab kill five policemen in northeastern Kenya

Governor of Kenya’s Mandera county has confirmed that an attack by Al Shabaab in the country’s northeastern town of Dimu has resulted in the death of five police officers.

AhlulBayt News Agency - Governor of Kenya’s Mandera county has confirmed that an attack by Al Shabaab in the country’s northeastern town of Dimu has resulted in the death of five police officers. 

The Somalia militants latest attack on Monday was first related by a regional official before the governor confirmed and condemned the attack via his official twitter handle.

‘‘We condemn the attack by al Shabaab at Dimu this morning, five police officers killed. The info about their presence was long shared by our locals,’‘ the Mandera County Governor tweeted.

A court in northern Somalia town of Garowe had also sentenced 43 al-Shabaab militants to death. The prosecutor of the court said the militants who were arrested during the heavy clashes in Puntland early this year have been in prison for the past three months.

Kenya which shares a common border with Somalia have been battling with the insurgents over the years. The group has launched scathing attacks on Kenyan soil including the West Gate Mall and the Garissa University attacks.

With respect to the Garissa attack in 2015 which killed some 148 people, al-Shabab has confirmed the death of a commander believed to have masterminded the attacks.
