AhlulBayt News Agency - On Tuesday 14th June, 2016, the Department of State Services (DSS) of Nigeria submitted to the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that Sheikh Zakzaky was on December 14, 2015, taken into protective custody by the DSS, following an intelligence report that he was going to be killed.
It will be recalled that Sheikh Zakzaky’s arrest and detention followed an attacked initiated by Nigerian Army on 12th December, 2016 at Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah Zaria, targeting Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H). The attack continued from the Hussainiyyah to Cemetery of the movement and lastly at the resident of the Sheikh Zakzaky (H). The attacked left hundreds of members of the IMN killed including three children of the Sheikh and both the Sheikh and his wife Malama Zeenat sustained injuries from the gun shots of the Nigerian Army.
Now that the DSS revealed to the Court their intelligence report that Sheikh Zakzaky was on December 14, 2015, taken into protective custody by the DSS, following an intelligence report that he was going to be killed; prove that the main target of the Nigerian Army is to kill the Sheikh Zakzaky (H).
Gazali of DSS added that “Once you are vulnerable the state would protect you. El-Zakzaky is not in detention. He is under protective custody and is well taken care of where he is”, Gazali said.
Considering the fact that, but the attack and situation that endangered the life of Sheikh Zakzaky (H) were caused by the Nigerian Army, what remained unclear is that why the DSS are protecting the Sheikh Zakzaky from the action of her sister institution (Nigerian Army) that endangered the life of the Sheikh without stopping the action or challenging the action in a court of law.
The sitting of the court was adjourned to Wednesday 13th day of July, 2016. The team of lawyers of Sheikh Zakzaky under the leadership of Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) filed the case praying to the court for, an order directing the immediate and unconditional release of Sheikh Zakzaky from the custody of the DSS and another order restraining the security agents from further violating the fundamental human rights of the Sheikh in any manner whatsoever and howsoever without lawful justification.
