AhlulBayt News Agency - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and first lady Iriana met with residents and handed out food parcels in Kendal district, Central Java, on Friday after they attended a ground-breaking ceremony for the Pemalang-Batang toll road.
The president assisted with distributing Ramadan staple food packages – containing rice, sugar, cooking oil and tea – in a fishing village before chatting with residents.
Jokowi later visited a field previously owned by the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) in Plantaran village to hand out more Ramadan packages.
The presidential motorcade then made an impromptu stop – a habit for which Jokowi is known – at Mekar Raya, a souvenir and snack shop, where he disembarked and entered the shop alone to buy some of the crackers for which the region is famous.
The president has officiated at the ground-breaking ceremonies of several toll roads in Java, as the government aims to connect the west and east ends of the island by the end of 2018, before moving on to Sumatra and Aceh.
