AhlulBayt News Agency - For the third consecutive year, a Malaysian Qari bagged the title at the ASEAN Quran Recital Competition held in Bangkok, Thailand. This year, it was Muhamad Husaini Mahmur who made Malaysia proud.
Muhamad Husaini, who is also the third-place winner of the National Quran Recital Assembly 2016, said he faced stiff competition.
"Most of the participants had better voices, so I focused on the Tajweed, Taranum and Lahjah," he told reporters when met upon arrival at the KL International Airport.
The final year student of Arabic Language and Communication at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia said Malaysian participants had an advantage as the format of the assembly in Thailand was similar to the one in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Qariah Siti Husnaa Hassan also made Malaysia proud by emerging as the second-place winner in the women's category.
It was indeed the highest achievement of a Malaysian Qariah at the competition since its commencement in 2011.
Siti Husnaa, 24, said her consistent training and guidance by her teachers helped her master the recitation techniques for the competition.
Siti Husnaa was also the winner of the National Quran Recital Assembly 2015 and the Southeast Asia Quran Recital Assembly 2013.
