A scientific discussion for preservation of a 300-year-old manuscript of the Holy Quran was held in Multan, Pakistan, on Thursday.
It was held between former federal minister Syed Hamid Saeed Kazmi and Dean of faculty of Science and Director ICS at BZU Prof Dr Tariq Mahmood Ansari.
Other experts who attended the discussion included: Principal Multan College of Arts, Prof Shahzad Akhtar, Dr Ahmad Kaleem Qureshi Chief Librarian BZU, Sajjad Larr and Prof Dr Muhammad Arif.
According to university sources, the manuscript of the Holy Quran was handed over to the Kazmi family by their relatives from Ammroha, India, a few days back.
Different options, including chemical treatment, polymer spray, pasting and lamination, and scanning came under discussion.
A careful pesticide treatment and vacuum container display was proposed as an appropriate technique to preserve the manuscript.
