AhlulBayt News Agency - Alarming video footage of Bahraini police firing what seemed to be a tear gas grenade inside a house were circulated on social media, on Tuesday. A security policeman was filmed closing the front door of a house in Shahrakan after he fired the tear gas grenade inside. Women and children inside were heard screaming.

Meanwhile, Bahraini Authorities have not commented on the incident.

The footage also revealed the security policemen violently arresting youth males who were inside the house. Security forces were deployed in heavy gear in the village of Shahrakan, south-west of Bahrain, where the funeral of Ali Abdulghani was taking place.

Al Wefaq denounces these practices which represent serious violations and a danger on lives. Such egregious and unlawful acts must be halted. Also, an investigation into the incident must be launched by an independent body to bring the perpetrators to accountability.

Sadly, these acts partly reflect the results of the State’s security approach and the entrenchment of impunity. While the better for Bahrain is real dialogue, which the Authorities continue to reject in order to escape pressing political entitlements.
