Twitter campaign calls on Kerry to raise Human Rights issues during Bahrain Visit

Bahraini dissent launched a campaign on Twitter under hashtag #KerryInBahrain, calling on the US Secretary of State John Kerry to raise human rights issues during upcoming visit to Bahrain on Wednesday (April 6, 2016).

According to head of the European-Bahraini Organization for Human Rights (EBOHR), Hussain Jawad, the campaign was adopted by a number of human rights groups and activists and aims at sending tweets mentioning @johnkerry with #KerryInBahrain hashtag on the situation in Bahrain.

Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) called on kerry to meet with human rights defenders, especially the president of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) Nabeel Rajab, also urging him to demand the Bahraini authorities to unconditionally release political prisoners.

The US State Department announced that Secretary of State John Kerry will visit Bahrain on Wednesday to join the meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers to be held on Thursday and then head to Japan's Hiroshima.

It will be Kerry's first visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain. In the weekend, he will pay a visit to Hiroshima as part of preparations for the G7 summit to take place in May.
