AhlulBayt News Agency - The 14th edition of the Quran competition for Bahraini Shias concluded earlier this week.
The Quran competition was held by al-Dhikr al-Hakim Quranic society from March 16 to 26 in al-Sanabis, a village in the suburbs of the capital Manama, Qaaf news agency reported.
The Hussainiya (religious center) of the village hosted the closing ceremony on Friday, April 1.
A large number of religious, Quranic and cultural figures from Bahrain as well as Kuwait and Shia-majority regions of Saudi Arabia were present at the ceremony.
It began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Qari Mahmoud al-Iskafi followed by speeches by Ali Turaif, the head of the society, and senior Bahraini cleric Allameh Sayyid Abdullah al-Quraifi.
There was also a Tawasheeh (religious song) performance by al-Dhikr al-Hakim Tawasheeh group.
Some 1500 Quran activists from Bahrain and other countries competed in the Quranic event in different categories such as recitation, memorization, interpretation, Quranic culture and contemplating the Quran.
There was also a special section for the hearing impaired, featuring memorization of Surah al-Hashr.
The competition was held with the motto of "Do not follow the footsteps of Satan” (Holy Quran, Surah al-Nur, verse 21).
