Bahrain Al Wefaq: Stripping citizenship, act against basic universal human rights

Al Wefaq stated the decision of the Appeal Court to deport the professor Masoud Jahromi, after revoking his citizenship, is a violation to his rights of citizenship for unjustified reasons. The prosecution continued to issue same decision to deport more citizens that have been made stateless, Ebrahim Karimi and Ali Isfindiar.

AhlulBayt News Agency - Bahrain authorities have arbitrarily expelled Dr. Masoud Jahromi, a Bahraini academic professor on Monday 7th March, 2016 after he was stripped of his citizenship. The arbitrary expulsion has reached many clerics and citizens before. One month earlier, Husain Kheer Allah was stripped of his citizenship whereas the cleric, Sheikh Husain Al Najati and Farhad Khorsheid were deported after being stateless .

“Stripping of citizenship, making citizens stateless and then deporting them is  such an arbitrary measure. It is an act that is against basic universal human rights; and solely taken for political and sectarian reasons”, Alwefaq stated.

“Has Bahrain become more restrictive to prevent its own people of all kinds of freedom of expression,” Al Wefaq wondered.

Alwefaq added that the decisions of deportation will deepen the crisis in Bahrain and will open the door to a serious humanitarian crisis on the families of those who have been deported.

Alwefaq is deeply concerned about the courts decisions to revoke citizenships despite the fact that they haven’t reached their appeal hearing.

Finally, Alwefaq calls for an inclusive political solution that leads to a democratic transition which is the demand of the majority of the people of Bahrain. An inclusive political solution starts with releasing prisoners of conscience, launching a meaningful dialogue that fulfills the aspirations of all Bahrainis in a free and peaceful homeland.
