AhlulBayt News Agency - In response to the Bahraini authorities' decision to deport Dr. Masoud Al-Jahromi by force, Amnesty International stressed that expulsion is now "Bahrain's new weapon of choice" to banish ‘unwanted' individuals & silence dissent.
Amnesty International further stated on its official Twitter account that the expulsion of Jahromi represents a violation of international law.
A source close to the family of Dr. Jahromi, who was stripped of his nationality, had previously expressed their concerns over "a repeated scenario of forced expulsion as the case of Sheikh Khojasteh and unionist Khayrallah," after the Bahraini Department of Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs summoned Jahromi.
An Appeals court upheld a verdict on Sunday (March 6, 2016) to expel Jahromi outside the country and fine him 100 Bahraini dinars for his illegal residence.
In less than a month, the Bahraini authorities have forced the Shiite cleric Sheikh Mohammad Khojasteh and the unionist Hussain Khayrallah, who had their citizenships revoked, to leave the country, after the approval of the appeals court.
Dr. Jahromi was stripped of his nationality on the onset of last year, as he was among the list of 72 citizens whose citizenships were revoked by King, which mostly included peaceful opponents of the government belonging to the Shiite majority.
