Despite gains made over the past decade, the Afghan women are still vulnerable and yet continue to experience different types of violence.
A gathering of religious scholars and government officials was held Saturday in Kabul where the participants highlighted women's prestige in Islam.
Irrespective of what rights Islam has given to women, they are being treated otherwise, according to clerics.
They warned however that the violence against women was on the rise.
Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs, Faiz Mohammad Osmani, meanwhile urged the religious scholars and prayer leaders to put their earnest efforts in eliminating the tragedy.
Also present at the event was Afghanistan's First Lady Rula Ghani who expressed optimism about women's future in the country.
"Presence of women in key social sectors like education, health, security and agricultural makes me hopeful about women's future," she said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Women's Affairs, Dilbar Nazari, admitted women are experiencing violence in different parts of the country.
Sexual harassment, abduction, rape and human trafficking are the threats Nazari mentioned facing Afghan women.
"Violence against women has turned into a common trend in Afghanistan," said Suraya Subhrang, a commissioner at the Afghanistan's Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC).
