AhlulBayt News Agency - Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, the head of the al-Azhar Islamic center in Egypt, underlined the importance of strengthening Islamic unity and avoiding sectarian violence in the region.
Speaking to Sky News Arabic on Monday, he said the Zionist regime of Israel is the only one that benefits from regional inter-religious violence.
He underlined that terrorism originates from sectarian and ethnic conflicts.
El-Tayeb also said that a special committee has been established to help stop sectarian and ethnic clashes in Muslim countries.
He added that the committee plans to send peace delegations to countries like Syria, Yemen and Iraq to try to achieve reconciliation between clashing sides in these countries.
Iraq, Syria and Yemen have been facing terrorist attacks, foreign aggression and civil wars in recent years.
Iraq has been the scene of clashes between military forces and the ISIL (Daesh) terrorists since the foreign-backed militants attacked the Arab country from Syria in summer 2014.
Syria has been also gripped by civil war since March 2011. More than 260,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflicts.
Yemen, meanwhile, has been under deadly air strikes by a Saudi-led coalition since March 26. The attacks on the Arab country have killed more than 8,000 people, most of them civilians.
