President Rouhani described Iran-Switzerland relations as historical and amicable and stressed developing and strengthening ties between the two countries in all fields.

President Hassan Rouhani attended the meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Switzerland and described Iran-Switzerland ties as historical and amicable and said: “Today in post-JCPOA and post-sanctions era, there are good opportunities for developing ties and cooperation in all fields ahead of us and we should make efforts in doing so”.

He added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes developing ties and fostering friendship with Switzerland”.

President Rouhani continued: “During nuclear negotiations between Iran and 5+1, Switzerland played its constructive role well as hosting the talks”.

Dr Rouhani also said that banking and insurance cooperation should be developed between the two countries, as well as industry, agriculture, transportation, and railways.

He also stressed the need to develop scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

Underlining more cooperation between Iran and Switzerland in the field of regional issues, he added: “To strengthen stability and security all over the world, especially in the Middle East, all countries should try to combat dangerous terrorist groups”.

He emphasized on the joint efforts and cooperation to stop terrorism all over the world and added that the terrorists who have become a great danger for the countries of the Middle East region, will undoubtedly be a great danger for other countries of the world, especially European countries, as well.

Also indicating on the necessity of providing the refugees and the regional nations who are suffering from terrorism, with humanitarian aid, medicine and food, President said: "Iran and Switzerland should consider ways of providing the peoples of the region with the humanitarian assistance and take positive steps in this regard.

Dr. Rouhani expressed hope that the two countries could take positive steps to prevent violence and extremism for the implementation of the resolution "a world free of violence and extremism" known as "WAVE".

He also expressed hope that the Swiss President's trip to Tehran would be a good start to create movement in the two countries' bilateral and regional ties.

Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann in this meeting expressed his pleasure over the trip to Iran and at the same time referred to the necessity of the multilateral ties between the two countries and said: "As Iran, with its ancient culture and Switzerland with its new science and knowledge, can set a joint goal and mechanism to each other's development, so we are interested in a comprehensive development of relations with Iran.

He also called for expansion of bilateral relations in the fields of science, technology, industry, higher education and tourism.

Stating that Iran and Switzerland should find a joint solution to resolve regional issues and put an end to terrorism, Schneider-Ammann said that Islamic Republic of Iran and Switzerland can have good cooperation with each other in this regard.

Expressing his country's support for Iran's membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO), he also welcomed the membership and described it as a means to further progress the organization.
