Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Revolution at a meeting this morning (Tuesday) with Mr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan, described the issue of “Unity of Ethnic Groups” in Afghanistan as the solution to the problems in this country. Pointing to the two country’s many experiences and capacities of cooperation, he asserted that: The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the “security, peace and progress of Afghanistan” as Iran's “security and progress.”

Ayatollah Khamenei lauded the initiative to establish a national unity government and expressed hopefulness for solving the problems of Afghanistan, adding: “God Willing the National Unity Government will be truly realized, as the solution to the problems of Afghanistan, is to create unity among various ethnic groups and officials.”

The Leader of the Revolution criticized the policy of isolating the Mujahideen in Afghanistan over the last few years and stressed that: “Isolating the Mujahideen by calling them warlords is an erroneous policy and in a country which is under military attacks and pervasive sedition, the people need to be ready to defend their own country by keeping a spirit of resistance.”

Ayatollah Khamenei asserted that lacking the power to defend can pave the ground for foreign intervention and added: “We have witnessed how Americans have killed so many people in Afghanistan and how they have caused severe damages and yet they refuse to bring an end to it.”

The Leader of the Revolution praised the spirit of resistance that the people of Afghanistan showed against occupation and invasion of Afghanistan by Britain, the Soviet Union and the U.S. in recent years and added: “The spirit of resistance and religiosity is deeply rooted among the people of Afghanistan and historically it is well-known that no occupier has managed to survive in Afghanistan.”
