Indonesian police detained three people on suspicion of having links to the Daesh terrorist group during a special operation in the province of Central Sulawesi, local media reported Thursday.

The police have been conducting extensive search operations to find and detain the country's most-wanted militant leader, Santoso, who had been at large for years.

"This morning my team just reported that they had captured three more people," Central Sulawesi police chief Idham Azis was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.

He gave no details of the arrests or the identities of the detained, but said that during the operation improvised explosive devices, firearms and ammunition were confiscated.

Earlier this month, Indonesia police arrested six suspected supporters of Daesh, who were allegedly planning terror attacks in Java and Sumatra.
