Muslim Society of Ottawa Strongly condemns Nigerian Army for its brutal killing of hundreds of unarmed Shia Muslims including women and children while they were worshiping in the mosque. It may be noted that the Islamic Centre of the Shia community was not only burnt down but recently reports and videos have emerged of razing the tomb of Sheikh Zakzaky’s mother and bulldozing the Shia cemetery.
We demand that Nigerian Army should immediately and unconditionally release the injured leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and all of his family members and followers that they have arrested.
Protesters demand to see Sheikh Zakzaky in public to determine the extent of his injuries and to confirm that he is still alive and that he be given the opportunity to state his side of the events. So far we have only been fed the self-serving lies from the military.
In the statement that was released on December 29th, Muslim Society of Ottawa also complained about Canadian media silence over Shia Muslim events, charging them of covering selective news.
