Fate of Sheikh Zakzaky still hangs in balance: Nigerian cleric

Sheikh Adamou noted that government has not elaborated any detail about the whereabouts of Sheikh al-Zakzaky but they say he is healthy.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency - Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky, the leader of the Shia Movement in Nigeria is in good health condition, Sheikh Sabiou Mamane Idi Adamou Head of Kosar Population Institute in Nigeria said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran on Tuesday.

Sheikh El-Zakzaky is in good health condition according to the government sources, the cleric added.

Sheikh Adamou noted that government has not elaborated any detail about the whereabouts of Sheikh al-Zakzaky but they say he is healthy.

He said during an attack by Nigerian Army, near thousands of Shia people have been killed contrary to the government estimates that claims just about tens have been murdered.

Sheikh Adamou thanked Iran's support for African people including the Nigerian Shia Muslims, adding that Tehran is a long-standing supporter of moderate Islam in West Africa.

Iran has pursued the case of Sheikh al-Zakzaky arrest and summoned Nigerian ambassador to Tehran for explanation, he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the cleric called the Islamic Unity Conference held in Tehran as a good way for encouraging solidarity among Muslims.

Daesh elements are active everywhere including Nigeria and they are supported by Saudi dynasty, he said, while speaking about necessity of fighting terrorism in the world.

The 29th International Islamic Unity Conference kicked off here on Sunday in the presence of President Hassan Rouhani.

Around 450 domestic and foreign guests from 70 countries are participating in the three-day conference and are considering current Islamic world crises and ways to confront them.
