Sheikh Ali Salman, Secretary General of Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, said in a message from his prison cell, “Political and economic developments have proven right and necessary the opposition’s demands for radical reform in Bahrain”.
He added in another tweet, ” A year in prison has deepened my belief of an inclusive national rescue project to save Bahrain from this awful political and economic situation”.
“An agreed upon genuine political resolution is inevitable, all else is mockery and damage to the country, delaying resolution will. Illusion of changing factors is useless”.
Sheik Ali Salman was arrested and sentenced to four years in prison for his peaceful political activism and demand for democracy and political reform. International human rights organisations described his arrest and trial arbitrary and considered him a prisoner of conscience.
Bahrain has been in political turmoil since 2011 when nationwide protests erupted demanding democratic transition.
