IHRC fears worst for Nigerian Shia leader Zakzaky; no evidence that the Sheikh is still alive

The London-based Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) said it fears worst for Nigerian leader Ibraheem el-Zakzaky demanding Nigerian government show proof of life and give access to the Shia cleric.

IHRC is deeply worried abut the safety of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, the leader of Nigeria’s peaceful Islamic Movement, the NGO said in a statement.

Sheikh Zakzaky is reported to have been shot 4 times last Sunday, when the army went on a killing spree against the movement, in which a thousand are thought to have been killed.

Zakzaky, his injured wife and many others were know to have been taken to army barracks. The army has since claimed that he was transferred to a military hospital and later passed into police custody.

However, no evidence that the Sheikh is still alive has been forthcoming, leading IHRC to fear the worst and holding a demonstration outside the Nigerian High Commission in London on Sunday.

IHRC demanded the Nigerian government and army immediately release Sheikh Zakzaky and the hundreds detained since the killings early this week.
