Indonesia police arrest 6 over planned bombings attacks

Police in Indonesia have arrested six men, including members and supporters of Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, on suspicions of planning to carry out attacks in the country, a report says.

Police in Indonesia have arrested six men, including members and supporters of Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, on suspicions of planning to carry out attacks in the country, a report says.

The six were rounded up in a series of counter-terrorism raids that started on Friday and continued into late Saturday, adding that they wanted to carry out bomb attacks against Shia communities in Java and Sumatra.

Bomb-making materials and manuals were also seized from them.

According to the report, which cited National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti, the raids to arrest the suspects were carried out after the FBI and the Australian Federal Police provided the Indonesian authorities with intelligence regarding the terror activities.

"This terrorist network was preparing for bombing attacks in various locations in Indonesia," Badrodin said, adding, "Some are ISIS (Daesh) members and others are sympathizers."

The official said the anti-terror operation is still ongoing and called on the public to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious.

Earlier this month, Indonesia’s military chief said more than 150,000 security personnel and several religious organizations would be deployed to protect churches and public places around the country during Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations.

Daesh, with members from several Western countries, controls parts of Syria and Iraq, and has been carrying out horrific acts of violence such as public decapitations and crucifixions against all communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
