Peace March in Condemnation of Nigeria Shia Massacre held in Aligarh, India 18.12.2015

Ahlul Bayt News Agency - The students of Aligarh Muslim University (a city in Uttar Pradesh, India) on 18 Dec. organised a peace march from AMU Jama Masjid to University Circle after the Friday prayers to condemn the brutal massacre of thousands of innocent Nigerians by the Nigerian Army.

The Nigerian Army had shot thousands of innocent Nigerians in the city of Zaria and arrested the leader of Islamic movement Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky two days before.

Maulana Taqi Agha of Hyderabad addressed the huge gathering at the University Circle. Condemning the heinous crime committed by the Nigerian Army, he said in his speech, “Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki and his movement had been a strong voice against oppression all over the world. He had always condemned the terror outfits like Boko Haram and ISIS and their terrorist activities. A crackdown by the Nigerian Army on such a noble personality and his followers is condemnable and shameful”

Sheikh Zakzaki and his followers have a history of supporting the oppressed people. His support for the Palestinian cause is well known to the whole world. His followers were also attacked by the government forces a few months back on the international day of Quds in which many of his followers were killed including his three sons.

“The attitude of Nigerian government towards the Islamic movement of Nigeria is a matter of grave concern for all the concerned citizens of our city. We strongly condemn this oppression by the Nigerian Army and appeal to the Nigerian Government to act responsibly and safeguard the rights of its citizen” said a participant.

The students presented a Memorandum to the Nigerian High commission. An appeal was made to the Nigerian Government by the students to:

1. Grant access to Medical care as a matter of urgency to Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki and his followers detained by the Nigerian authorities and shall release them with immediate effect.

2. Take necessary measures to safeguard the rights of its citizen and protect their right to practice their religion peacefully.

3. Set up an impartial inquiry committee and investigate the massacre and those responsible for the unlawful killings shall be brought to justice immediately.
