Bahrain’s Prosecution Reiterates Demand to Issue Maximum Penalty against Sheikh Salman

The Bahraini Public Prosecution, in its plea presented before the court reiterated all the charges brought against the opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman, demanding that the appeals court convicts Salman and issues the maximum penalty against him.

The Bahraini Public Prosecution, in its plea presented before the court on Monday (December 14, 2015), reiterated all the charges brought against the opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman, demanding that the appeals court convicts Salman and issues the maximum penalty against him.

Bahrain's Appeals Court adjourned the trial of the Bahraini opposition leader and Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Sheikh Ali Salman, until January 14, 2016 for the defence pleading, and ordered the Public Prosecution to hand Salman its plea and court records.

The court rejected the defence team's repeated request to release Sheikh Ali Salman with any guarantee it finds to be suitable.

The local Bahraini Al-wasat newspaper said that the hearing didn't last more than 35 minutes and was held amid high security measures, and also attended by representatives of foreign ministries, adding that Sheikh Salman was brought to court in prison uniform and placed inside a glass compartment set specifically for the accused.
