Tens of European tourists attend Muharram rituals in Yazd, Iran

Yazd province hosted over 200 European tourists during this year’s Muharram mourning rituals in Tasua and Ashura .

Ahlul Bayt News Agency - IRAN - Yazd province hosted over 200 European tourists during this year’s Muharram mourning rituals in Tasua and Ashura (Muharram 9 and 10 –Friday and Saturday), said an official at the international secretariat of the Yazd Hussainiya, Fars reported on Friday.

Hussainiya is a congregation hall for Shia commemoration ceremonies, especially those associated with the remembrance of Muharram.

The secretariat seeks to highlight the virtues of Ashura to the world, Hassan Hosseini said, noting the presence of tourists will make help promote the goal.

The tourists attended different rituals such as Tazieh, Condolence Theater inspired by historical and religious events, Sineh-Zani [beating the chest], and took pictures to document the events, Hosseini explained.

Additionally some booklets which focused not only on the Muharram rituals but Islam in general were handed to the tourists as well, the official added.

“Should the officials of cultural affairs pay due attention to the secretariat, it will be more successful in achieving its goal which is to promote Islam worldwide,” he noted.
