Muharram preparations in Pakistan: Cleanliness campaign launched in Pindi

The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) Managing Director Irfan Ahmad Qureshi has directed to clean the routes of Muharram processions.

Talking to media persons, he said that cleanliness campaign was in progress with sanitary staff deployed around the city. The construction material and debris would be removed from the routes, he added.

The managing director warned that strict action would be taken against those found negligent in discharge of their duties.

Meanwhile, all government departments including the tehsil municipal administrations, Water and Sanitation Agency, health department, Rescue 1122, and civil defence have been directed to ensure all possible arrangements for maintaining security, peace, cleanliness, availability of lights, drinking water, scanners, cameras, and installation of walkthrough gates on the routes of Muharram processions and places of majalis.

It is to be stated that 538 mourning procession and 3,813 majalis would be held from first Muharram to the 10th. Under the security plan, 10,000 armed policemen would be deployed to maintain peace during the month.

No one would be allowed to stand on rooftops of commercial and residential buildings situated along the routes of mourning processions and carry weapons, a police spokesperson said.

The government has also banned the entry of controversial ulema in the district to maintain peace during the holy month. Rescue teams and hospital staff are also on alert when the date gets closer to Ashura, the 10th of Muharram.
