Iran's Parliament Accept General Outline of JCPOA

Iranian parliament ratified the general outline of a single-urgency bill on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) here on Sunday.

The Iranian lawmakers reviewed the single-urgency bill on the JCPOA in an open session on Sunday morning.

Review of the single-urgency bill on the JCPOA showing Tehran's reciprocal and proportional measures towards implementation of the plan was on the Majlis's (Parliament) agenda today.

A total of 253 lawmakers cast their votes. The bill was approved with 139 favorable votes, 100 against and 12 abstentions.

On July 14, Iran and six world powers known as the Group 5+1 (the US, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China) concluded their over a decade-long negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear activities which led to the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

According to the text of the document, the anti-Iran sanctions will be removed in exchange for some limitations on the country’s nuclear energy program; Iran will be recognized by the United Nations as a nuclear power and will continue its uranium enrichment program.

Iran has repeatedly announced its nuclear activities are aimed for peaceful purposes.
