Funeral Procession Held for Martyred Iranian Hajj Pilgrims

Mourning ceremonies were held in Tehran and a number of other cities on Sunday for a number of Iranian pilgrims who lost their lives in a recent crush in Saudi Arabia.

In Tehran, a large crowd of people attended the ceremony held outside the University of Tehran.

At least 465 Iranians were among more than 4700 Hajj pilgrims who were killed in the tragedy on September 24.

The bodies of 104 Iranian victims of the tragic incident arrived in Tehran on Saturday.

The second plane transporting the bodies of 114 other Iranian pilgrims who lost their lives in the human crush of September 24 arrived in Iran’s capital Sunday.

The bodies of the remaining victims, some of whom have not been identified, are kept in a cold storage facility in Makkah. The bodies are set to be identified in Iran.

Addressing a ceremony on Saturday to pay tribute to the victims of the Mina disaster, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said, “If it is proven that a number of [Saudi] authorities are to blame for the incident, we will never forgive [those accountable for] the blood of our loved ones.”
