Saudi Arabia’s Council of Senior Scholars claimed the movie ‘Muhammad: Messenger of God (PBUH)’ is an affront to Islam and the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
In a statement, the council called for banning the film, claiming it desecrates the Holy Prophet of Islam and his companions.
The Council of Senior Scholars, the highest religious body in Saudi Arabia that advises the king on religious matters, also urged all Muslims to boycott the movie and condemn it.
Iranians welcomed the first screening of the movie “Muhammad (PBUH): Messenger of God” by Oscar-nominated Majidi Majidi on Thursday, August 27.
The film, the first part of Iran’s big-budget trilogy on the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), also opened the 39th edition of Montreal World Film Festival (MWFF) on the same day.
Some scholars in the Muslim world, however, have been opposed to screening of the movie. They say picturing the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is Haram (religiously forbidden).
This is while Majidi has reaffirmed time and again that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) has not been pictured in the movie due to the sanctity of the sublime character of God’s last messenger.
