Ahlul Bayt News Agency - The legal fraternity of Karachi boycotted courts on Saturday and staged a protest against the assassination of Sindh High Court (SHC) advocate Syed Ameer Haider Shah.
The Karachi Bar Association initially gave the protest call, which was later endorsed by Malir Bar Association and the Sindh Bar Council. “The lawyers would observe province-wide boycotts of court proceedings until Monday,” Sindh Bar Council announced later.
The lawyers on Saturday took out a rally and staged a protest outside the Rangers Headquarters. They demanded the Sindh chief minister and Rangers director general to arrest the killers of Shiite Muslim Haider Shah. The lawyers ended their sit-in after successful talks between the lawyers’ leadership and the Rangers officials.
The paramilitary force assured them of arresting Shah’s killer within a week. On the other hand, lawyers’ leadership committed that none of their fraternity member would appear on behalf of suspects involved in targeted killing.
It is pertinent to mention here that Syed Ameer Haider Shah was the second lawyer killed this month, as another senior advocate, Ashfaq Ahmed, was gunned down on August 3 near Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Shah, 35, an Shia advocate of the Sindh High Court and former joint secretary of the KBA, was gunned down on August 29 near Hassan Square, while his assistant Shahid Chandio remained safe in the attack.
The unidentified assailants riding a motorbike attacked him when he was on his way home from the court. He sustained several wounds and was rushed to the nearest hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Haider Jamali has constituted a special investigation team to probe the killing.
The team will probe the murder of Shah under the supervision of the Karachi additional IG, whereas other member of the team include Counter Terrorism Department DIG and District South’s DIG, SSP and investigation SSP.
Funeral prayers of Syed Ameer Haider Shah have been offered. According to the details, funeral prayers of Ameer Haider, have been offered yesterday after noon prayers, at his village Babrlu. Allama Sadiq Hussain Najfi led the funeral prayers and thousands of people attended. A large number of Shia Ulema, ISO members and other important people were also present. Secretray General of MWM Sindh Allama Mukhtar Imami also attended the funeral prayers.
