Leading the way as the world's most populous Muslim state, Indonesia announced plans to construct an International Islamic Study Center, in a bid to spread true Islam across the world.
"We will arrange 200 hectares to build the world center for Islamic studies," Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated in Tegal, Central Java, on Monday.
The vice president added that Indonesia, as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, should play a greater role in spreading Islam.
"We are grateful for it. Indonesia should have a major role in the development of Islam in the world," Kalla remarked.
The move followed calls by different governments for Indonesia to take a greater role in solving issues in the Muslim world, during a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the Asian-African Conference 2015 in Bandung recently.
"If people want to know about Islam more deeply, they can just come to Indonesia," the Vice President observed.
He added that the international Islamic center would be built regardless of the costs required.
Muslims make up around 85 percent of Indonesia's 237-million population.
