Egyptian expert: Arab boycott campaigns do not affect Israel

Boycott campaigns against the Israeli commodities is not an easy task and have not left notable effects on the Israeli economy, said Tariq Fahmy, Egyptian expert in the Israeli affairs.

Boycott campaigns against the Israeli commodities is not an easy task and have not left notable effects on the Israeli economy, said Tariq Fahmy, Egyptian expert in the Israeli affairs.

Fahmy added that those campaigns have not led to any economic or political repercussions against the Israeli interests. He blamed the Arab League for not activating such initiatives.

The Egyptian expert, who serves as Chairperson of the Israeli Unit at National Center for Middle East Studies, ruled out the participation of the telecommunication companies in the boycott campaigns due to their economic deals with the Israeli government.

Jordan is the only exception in this regard, said the expert. He added that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formed a committee, four days ago, to contain the repercussions of the current Jordanian boycott to the Israeli commodities.

Jordanian activists launched a campaign entitled “Jordan boycotts” in May, calling the Jordanian people to boycott the Israeli commodities in coincidence with the 67th anniversary of the Israeli occupation to Palestine “Nakba”.
