The Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky expressed his condolences over the passing away of Ayatollah Mehdi Asefi.
In a statement the Sheikh says:
"It is with great sadness that we received the sad news of the passing away of longtime companion of Imam Khomeini (QS) and representative of Sayyed Qa’ed [Imam Khamenei] (H) in Iraq, Ayatollah Mehdi Asefi whose departure coincides with the anniversary of the departure of his mentor Imam Khomeini."
"Our heart felt condolences to the Supreme Leader, all the maraji (Grand Shia Ulemas)’, the family of the scholar and indeed the entire Mulam Ummah."

Ayatollah Asefi passed on on Thursday the 4th of June, 2015 at the age of 78.
Sheikh Zakzaky was recently together with the late scholar in the Holy City of Najaf during the Sheikh's recent visit to Iraq.
