Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined the necessity for increased unity among Muslims to prevent implementation of enemies' plots.
Addressing a ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of the demise of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, at his mausoleum in Tehran on Thursday, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the need for sticking to the late Imam's principles, and said the Islamic Republic will not be deviated from its righteous path as long as it respects these principles.
He said these principles include practice of genuine Islam and rejection of the US-favored Islam, respect for the divine promises and distrust in the arrogant powers, trusting people's will and power and opposition to growing state sponsorship, serious support for the deprived people and opposition to aristocracy, support for the oppressed people in the world and explicit and straightforward opposition to the world bullying powers, independence, rejection of powers' hegemony, and emphasis on national unity.
"Within the framework of these principles of thought, Imam Khomeini always stood against the US and its political and security system and supported the oppressed nations, specially the Palestinian people, fully intimately and decisively," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
He said based on the same principles Iran opposes and condemns both the ISIL terrorist group's savage and cruel behavior in Iraq and Syria and the US police's cruel treatment of the American people.
Ayatollah Khamenei also voiced opposition to the cruel siege of the oppressed Palestinian people in Gaza, bombing of the Yemeni people, restrictions against the Bahraini nation and the US drone attacks against the Afghans and Pakistanis.
"That's the reason why Palestine is still the main issue for the Islamic Republic of Iran that will never be excluded from its agenda," he added.
Ayatollah Khamenei also pointed to Imam Khomeini's belief in independence and opposition to hegemony, and said the enemies' threats and sanctions are aimed at impairing these principles.
"The enemy has targeted the country's independence and all people should vigilantly understand the enemy's goals," he said.
The Iranian leader also warned of the enemies' plots to create religious and ethnic strife in Iran and among Muslims, and said Imam Khomeini laid much emphasis on national unity to confront such plots since the very first days after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
In relevant remarks in October, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that strengthening unity among the Muslim states is the prioritized policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
"Islamic unity which is the basic slogan of the Islamic Republic means that the Islamic Ummah shouldn’t practice hostility towards each other, but should support each other in (dealing with) important global issues," Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with Iranian Hajj officials in Tehran.
He described unity and brotherhood among Muslims as one of the pillars of Islam, and emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran would never compromise this issue.
Ayatollah Khamenei cautioned that enemies have attempted to block Iran's policy of strengthening Muslim unity through efforts to "build a wall between Iran and the Muslim world", and said all people are responsible for destroying this wall and Hajj rituals are the best opportunity to this end.
He also referred to the enemies' propaganda and lies about Shiism as another method used for separating Iran from the Muslim world, and said writing books is not enough to remove these ambiguities and the minds of people who have been influenced by such lies and propaganda should be changed by the help of different communication methods.
