Birth Anniversary of Ali Al-Akbar son of Imam Hussein (peace be upon them)

Ali Al-Akbar (peace be upon him) was born on the 11th of Sha'ban in the year 35 of the Hegira (on the most accurate account), while others stated that he was born in the year 41 of the Hegira.

Ali Al-Akbar (peace be upon him) was born on the 11th of Sha'ban in the year 35 of the Hegira (on the most accurate account), while others stated that he was born in the year 41 of the Hegira.

His father was Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), the Master of Martyrs and his mother was Sayyida Leila.

He was reared in the home of virtue and purity and grew up to be a deeply devout, courageous and honorable young man
On the tenth of Muharram, the companions of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) fought valiantly in defense of their beloved Imam, and they were martyred one after another. After their souls ascended, the descendants of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his relatives advanced to fight. They bid farewell and embraced one another before joining the battlefield.

Ali Al-Akbar (peace be upon him) resembled his great-grandfather, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his Household) in physical appearance, virtue and manner of speaking. This is evident in Imam Hussein's statement when his beloved son went forward to join the battle.

Ali Al-Akbar was the first Hashemite to fight, and he took permission from his father. The Imam (peace be upon him) granted him permission and said during the painful moments when Ali Al-Akbar went forward: "O Allah, bear witness that a youth who most resembles your Messenger in appearance, character and manner of speech has emerged to fight them."

He approached and recited the following verses:
"I am Ali, the son of Hussein son of Ali
By the House of Allah, we are nearer to the Prophet
By Allah, the son of a spurious son will not rule over us
I strike with my sword in defense of my father
The strike of a Hashemite, a Qurashi"

Ali Al-Akbar (peace be upon him) was a heroic warrior and he slew great numbers of the soldiers of the opposing army to the extent that the enemies made a clamor because of the many fatalities. However, the army of Yazid had cut off the water from the Prophet's Household, and Ali Al-Akbar was immensely thirsty and the iron of his armor weighed upon him. He fought them with all his might and displayed great courage on the battlefield, but he was hit on his head by a vile man and the other soldiers started to hit him with their swords. Thus, he was martyred and his soul ascended to join his great grandfather, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his Household). Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) approached him, cried, and said: "Life is no longer worth living after your departure".
