Abdul Majid Ahmed Muhammad al-Hamdan said the competition that helps to promote Islamic unity especially important because of the current sensitive situation the Muslim world is going through.
He underlined that unity, solidarity and accord in the Muslim Ummah is the first and most important message of the international Quranic contest.
The Saudi Qari added that participants in international Quranic events who are from different countries focus on memorization and recitation of the Noble Quran and that no mention of affiliation or sect is made here.
He underlined that such contests reflect the unity of Muslim Ummah in the world.
Al-Hamdan further lauded the quality of Iran’s Quranic event and appreciated the efforts of the organizers.
He said the Qaris who performed their recitation on the first and second days of the contest did a very good job, adding that the competition provides a good venue for learning about the best styles and techniques of Quran recitation.
As for his Quranic activities, al-Hamdan said he has attended various Quran competitions in the Qatif region of Saudi Arabia but that this is his first participation in an international Quran contest.
The 32nd edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Quran Competition kicked off here in Tehran on Friday, May 15, in a ceremony attended by high-ranking officials, including Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
Some 120 Quran reciters and memorizers from 75 countries are competing in the two categories of the contest, namely memorization and recitation of the Quran, for seven days.
The annual International Quran Competition is held to encourage the public to read the Holy Quran and to follow its instructions.
Organized by Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, the 2015 edition of the event will run until May 21.
