Iran, Philippines Voice Concern over Spread of Terrorism Worldwide

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his Filipino counterpart Feliciano Belmonte, in a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, called for the reinvigoration of international cooperation to eradicate terrorist groups and their threats to the international peace and security.

"In the meeting with the Iranian speaker, I said that the evil phenomenon of terrorism can threaten all the world countries," Belmonte told the media people in a joint press conference following the meeting with Larijani here today.

He further added that Iran has always been a key country in the promotion of regional stability, and called for the promotion of all-out relations with Iran.

"We believe that the rights of the people and countries should be respected," the Filipino speaker further added.

Larijani, for his part, said that both Tehran and Manila are resolved to reinvigorate the idea of finding peaceful solutions to crises in Yemen and Syria.

He further added that consolidation of international campaign against terrorism and its threats were stressed by both sides in the meeting.

"At the meeting, we discussed different issues, including consolation of parliamentary cooperation and expansion of economic interactions (between Tehran and Manila)," Larijani further added.

"Iran's nuclear talks with the six major world powers were also discussed in the meeting with the Filipino official," he continued.

Bilateral relations between the Philippines and Iran started on August 16, 1974. Iran invested $125 million in the Philippines’ petrochemical market in 2008.
The value of oil exports from Iran to the Philippines was pegged at $83 million in February 2012.

Both countries are eyeing to increase cooperation in areas of tourism, food production and industries, energy, construction, technology, science and culture.
