Grand Ayatollah Hoseyn Nouri-Hamadani has issued a statement condemning the Saudi Arabian-led invasion of Yemen saying: "[Saudi Arabia] has attacked the Islamic country of Yemen, which has committed no crime except legitimately seeking independence and salvation from the domination of great powers.

Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani’s statement has been translated as follows:

In the Name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

The day that the Muslims living in Islamic countries began to realize their independence, dignity and salvation from the domination of the arrogant powers and their agents and from falling into the hands of the Zionists, the arrogant powers, whose leader is the United States, created and propagated Salafism, DAESH (ISIL) and Boko Haram among the people of Islamic countries with exorbitant amounts of petrodollars and their nations’ blood because they see their own interests in military aggression and control over other countries. In countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Bahrain they are engaged in ruthless atrocities – including destruction and the killing of women and children.

The Saudi regime which has introduced itself as the “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques” and prints millions of copies of the Holy Quran and sends them to countries all over the world and considers itself as an Islamic sanctuary, has attacked the Islamic country of Yemen, which has committed no crime except legitimately seeking independence and salvation from the domination of great powers. Shameful crimes are being committed against the people of Yemen and several other governments have coordinated with the Saudis in attacking them. The arrogant powers have been among the first to encourage them to take such actions.

If their hearts truly burn for Islamic countries why have they remained silent in regard to the attacks on Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. They say nothing in regard to Bahrain and the Israeli regime which is occupying Palestine. Today in Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), Arab states have agreed to establish a joint military force. They must know that this Arab army answers the call of the United States and the Zionists. Thus, it not an Arab army, but the army of the arrogant powers and the Zionists. The people have finally woken up and have realized that the United States’ and their agents’ plans are not credible and the oppressed nations will be drawn toward the resistance.

In conclusion, they have understood that our word is an expression of Islam and the Holy Quran. We condemn the attacks and crimes and insist that every nation reserves the right to determine their own destiny and the oppressed people will be victorious.

“If you help God, He will help you and make your feet steady” [Holy Quran 47:7].
