New Zealand to send 143 soldiers to Iraq

On Tuesday, New Zealand announced it is planning to send 143 soldiers to Iraq to conduct training missions, and that the soldiers will take no part in the combat missions.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said in a press statement, “The 143 soldiers from the New Zealand Army will be deployed in Iraq to carry out training missions,” adding that, “The operation is most likely to start in next May, and will last for two years.”

“The soldiers will train the Iraqi forces in Camp Taji, north of Baghdad,” Key said, noting that, “New Zealand has a responsibility that is to battle and defeat ISIS.”

“These soldiers will take no part in the combat missions,” he added.
