A senior Mauritanian Muslim scholar said legal action should be taken against those who spread Takfiri ideologies.
Abdullah Bin Bayyah, head of the Society for Strengthening Peace in Islamic Communities, underlined that Islam is a religion of peace and friendship and one that never invites to violence.
He said Takfiri ideologies have no place in Islam and that Islam is not a religion of extremism and violence.
The senior cleric underlined that religious extremism only provides opportunities for the enemies of Islam.
In Recent years, Takfiri groups like the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the al-Nusra Front, and Boko Haram have carried out heinous crimes in different countries in name of Islam.
This is while the vast majority of Muslims condemn such acts of extremism and stress that they run counter to the very basic principles of Islam.
