Bahraini political prisoners subjected to denial of medical care as reprisal

Al Wefaq National Islamic Society said denying prisoners medical care and treatment goes against international covenants and national laws,....

Family members of Sheikh Mohammed Almahfoodh have confirmed his request to see a doctor has been denied several times. Almahfoodh is suffering from glaucoma and is in need for eye surgery. He has refused to take his meals in protest to the denial of medical treatment he is subjected to.

Al Wefaq National Islamic Society said denying prisoners medical care and treatment goes against international covenants and national laws, adding, every prisoner must not be denied his fundamental human rights. This matter should not be subjected to political disagreements as a reprisal against political prisoners, especially opposition figures and leaders.

The BICI report confirmed Almahfoodh a prisoner of conscience and called for his release along with jailed opposition figures.

Other opposition figures, like Hasan Mushaima and Abdulwahab Hussain, were also subjected to denial of medical care, as well as many other political prisoners.
