The regime in Bahrain has decided to renew the detention of Al Wefaq’s Secretary General, Sheikh Ali Salman, for another 15 days.
Salman has been in remand for 9 days since his arrest by the criminal intelligence on 28th December 2014.
Bahrain has witnessed wide protests on a daily basis since Salman’s arrest. The Bahraini regime confronted the angry protesters with rubber bullets and birdshot firearms.
The forces also resorted to an excessive use of toxic tear gas. In many cases, police fired tear gas canisters directly at protesters in a clear attempt to injure them. The forces also attempted to run-over the protesters with vehicles.
The Bahraini regime takes responsibility for this dangerous and reckless step as the protests widen despite the repression.
