A 27-year-old woman, who was one of the two latest people arrested for suspected links to the ISIL, married one of its fighters over Skype.

"We believe that she was first attracted to ISIL after watching its propaganda video on YouTube in November," said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

"She then got to know the North African fighter and eventually married him. He managed to persuade her to join him in Syria."

The woman, who was detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on the eve of Christmas, married the Morrocan ISIL fighter two weeks ago, Khalid said in a statement on Friday. She was planning to fly to Turkey before making her way into Syria.

She married the Moroccan militant two weeks ago, Mr Khalid said in a statement on Friday.

She reportedly became reclusive soon after getting to know the man, and did not complete her Bachelor of Graphic Design at Limkokwing University.

The woman was one of two people recently detained for links to ISIL.

The other person was a 22-year-old man, who was pursuing a Bachelor in Marine Technology in UiTM Arau, Perlis.

He was arrested at KLIA on Dec 28.

Said Mr Khalid: "He was influenced by videos of ISIL fighters and he interacted with Malaysian fighters in Syria.

"We will check further on the extent of his involvement."

Their arrests bring the number of people detained by Malaysian authorities since February last year for links to ISIL to 51.
