Two martyred and five pilgrims were injured when two mortar shells targeted them in Samara city.
Security source stated the mortar shells targeted the pilgrims near the holy shrines of Imamain al-Askariayn in Samara of southern Salah il-Din to result in martyring two and injuring five pilgrims.
This attack was coinciding with the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hasan Askary (AS).
"A servant of the shrine and a pilgrim have martyred in this attack," Ali Akbar Kazemi, cultural deputy of the Headquarters for Renovation of Iraq's Holy Shrines said.
Imamain al-Askariayn holy shrine in Samarra located in the north of the capital city of Baghdad. The shrine built in 944 and contains the tombs of two Shia Imams. Since the entrance of the ISIS terrorist group into Iraq the shrine has been targeted by extremists several times.
